Five years. I'll be honest — when I landed that very first client, "building a business" was the furthest thing from my mind. I just wanted to help someone keep their books straight. But one client became two, two became several, and before I fully realized what was happening, I was running a real, growing bookkeeping business. And now, here we are: five years in, and I couldn't be more grateful — or more excited — about everything ahead.

Anniversaries have a way of making you pause and take stock (pun very much intended). So today, I want to share a little of the story — where we started, where we landed, and what has made every single year worth celebrating.

It Started By Accident

The most honest thing I can say about how this business began is: I didn't plan to be an entrepreneur. There was no grand business plan, no pitch deck, no moment where I declared myself an entrepreneur. There was just a client who needed help and a genuine love of organized books.

That one client told another business owner. That business owner told another. The client list grew quietly and steadily, fueled almost entirely by word of mouth — which, looking back, is the most meaningful kind of growth there is. People trusted us enough to send their colleagues and fellow business owners our way. That trust is something we've never taken for granted.

The Leap That Changed Everything

There comes a moment in every accidental entrepreneur's journey where a decision has to be made: keep straddling two worlds, or commit. For me, that moment came when the client list had grown steady and strong enough that staying in a full-time job somewhere else started to feel like it was taking a toll on my family.

Leaving that steady paycheck was terrifying in the best way. It meant betting on myself — on the relationships built, on the value being delivered, and on the belief that what had grown organically could keep growing intentionally. That leap was absolutely the right call, and it set everything that followed in motion.

From Winter Park to Columbia

Life has a funny way of redirecting you. What started in the sunshine of Winter Park, Florida has found a wonderful new home in Columbia, South Carolina — and the move has been an adventure in every sense of the word. New community, new connections, but the same heart behind the work.
